Mama and Lawson


Curly hair. We love it, but some people are beginning to call him a girl.

I love my daddy!


Lawson turned 21 months on March 22nd. It has been quite amazing to see his progress over the past couple of months. Wow! That sounds very speech pathologist of me. His "progress"! I guess I should say his development. He is becoming more and more like a little boy and leaving the "baby-ness" behind.


Here are some of the latest things going on in Lawson's life.

• He is wearing a size 6.5 shoe, as determined by our trip to Sikes. Lawson (daddy) went with us and since Lawson loves shoes, he wants the best for Baby Lawson. However, he does look quite cute in his gray New Balance and his Tevas. We wanted to get him good shoes since the week before he wouldn't walk on his left foot. We think he might have tweaked it at some point in time and was gun shy about walking on it. He would curl his toes in and then revert back to crawling to get around. We did take him to the doctor, just to be certain, but overall, we think he figured out how to get sympathy by faking an injury. He is still in a size 4 diaper and weighs 27 pounds. I am not sure how tall he is, but I am assuming he's of average height. He is wearing 18-24 month and 2T clothes. Again, his dad wants him to be like him, so we went out to buy sporty clothes. I must say, he looks so cute in his soccer shorts and shirts! And we got him some basketball shorts and muscle tees too. Very cute!!!



• Toys: He likes plastic cups, airplanes, a wooden racing car and a stuffed bug set. This is so he can walk around holding them saying "Ewwww...nasty bugs!" He still loves balls and anything that can be thrown, whether or not it's supposed to be. But as far as toys go...he has a ton and really doesn't play with them all that much. There are much more fun things to get into in the house, like the cabinet with stocked shampoo and the pot holder drawer. He is playing appropriately with airplanes and cars. He will make the airplanes fly and make the cars go "Vrooom." He likes to look at and talk about Elmo, but doesn't play with him that much.

• Food: About food...he's not real adventurous. He will eat cheese, cottage cheese, mandarin oranges, pudding, whipped cream from the can (Thanks, Daddy!), chips (Thanks, Nacho Libre!), refried beans and rice (Thanks, Papi!), grilled cheese sandwiches, Spaghettio's, baked potatoes, ranch dressing, mayonnaise, chicken salad with feta and Zoe's dressing, eggs, pancakes, waffles, Pop-Tarts (who doesn't like those), strawberries, dried cranberries, raisins, grapes, oranges, apples and the usual M &M's and cookies. Oh, and he likes Lawson's Zone Bars. I continue to give him veggies but so far it's in vain. We will continue to try.




• Songs: He likes "The Itsy, Bitsy, Spider" to be sung before bedtime. Lawson usually sings it to him and Baby Lawson smiles really big and jumps in his crib. "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" and "Little Cabin in the Woods" are also favorites. We have sung them so much that we can leave out words and Lawson will fill them in. On a side note...as we were watching "Nacho Libre" for what feels like the 1000th time, he started saying words to one of the songs that was playing. Very cute. He loves music. When he hears it he will start to dance.
  
  
  
• Movement: He is starting to run faster and faster. He is pretty steady on his feet. He likes to jump and can get several inches off the ground. When Lawson is working out in the living room, he will stretch like Daddy and jump like Daddy and do push-ups like Daddy. It's very cute. He will put his arms out behind him and fly like an airplane.



• He continues to enjoy bath time and wants all of the toys in the tub with him. We are working on not throwing them out of the tub. Lawson showed him how to blow bubbles through a washrag, so he always wants bubbles and will ask for them. He will also put his hands up to his mouth and blow to mimic the bubble blowing. He does the same for dandelions. It is our goal to infest Damaris and Ryan's yard with them. We always blow them in their yard. :)



• Speech: As a speech therapist, I am constantly monitoring his speech progress. Both expressive and receptive. His receptive language is very good. He understands a lot more than I expected at this age. He will run around the house telling us about all the "no-no's" that will get him in trouble. He has tons of words and is putting two and three words together. His favorites are: no, Nacho Libre, movie, All finished, done, please, milk, bed, no night-night, spiders, star, bomb (that's courtesy of Lawson teaching him a song that he used to sing when he and his sister were little and he would always change the last words of the song to "a bomb", to upset his sister.), "mote" for remote, water, off, hot, cold, push, on, kiss, Mommy, Daddy, DeeDee, BeeBee, cars, plane and outside. We have also discovered that he says "sizards" for "lizard". There are so many more, but these are the ones that he uses a lot. He does call all fruits "apples" so we are working on differentiating between fruits. He will hear a loud noise and point to his ear and say "Noise" or "What's that?". When he sees DeeDee, he immediately asks for BeeBee (Uncle Ryan) and when he sees BeeBee he immediately asks for DeeDee. They are a packaged pair. When my mom and dad come in, my mom always gives him some lotion to put on his hands, so he will say "Mimi" and rub his hands together to say he wants some lotion. Oh yes...and DeeDee and BeeBee are teaching him to say "Pile drive to the face" and "Punch to the face" from Nacho Libre. I am sure I am going to be getting a call from his school for that one.



• Personality: We think Lawson is going to be a jokster. He loves to make you laugh. When we try to get on to him, he will make faces to try to make us laugh. We are working on that. He likes to look at my belly and belly button which is poking out and laugh. Then he wants to see his and Lawson's and everyone else who is in the room. He is usually happy and easy-going, although he has been sick for the past couple of weeks with a cold and now with what I think is his two-year-old molars coming in. When he is like this he wants me and me only, but will constantly call for his Daddy. He has leaned that if I don't give him what he wants he can go ask Daddy for it. That was kind of funny to witness. I wouldn't let him have something, and he immediately went to his dad to ask him. How did he learn that? He loves to laugh and smile and blow kisses. We have taught him how to say "Please" so now if we won't give him something, he thinks he can say "Please" over and over to get it. At least he is polite. He has the tendency to while and grunt for things, so we are teaching him to use his words and ask in a nice voice. He picks up on things so quickly.
